Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) presidential candidate Tamim Iqbal had been alleging that he was trying to influence the upcoming elections from the beginning. He claimed that the councilorship of many district, division and club organizers of his party had been blocked. He appeared at the Election Commission hearing yesterday regarding that allegation.
After the hearing, the Election Commission said that everything was being scrutinized and no decision had been made yet. Finally, the commission published the final voter list after 4:30 pm today. After hearing 30 of the 38 objections, the councilorship of 15 clubs was returned and the final voter list of 192 people was published.
Tamim’s club Gulshan Cricket Club has regained its place in this list. However, Mizanur Rahman, who owns BPL team Fortune Barisal, submitted the club’s councilor nomination. BCB Media and Umpires Committee Chairman Iftekhar Hossain Mithu’s councilorship has also been restored. He submitted the form from the third division Vikings Cricket Academy. Former BCB director Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, who submitted the form from Nakhalpara Cricketers, also got his councilorship back.
Out of the six districts in Category 1, the list of five districts other than Narsingdi has been finalized. Syed Fazle Elahi from Sylhet, Md. Towhid Tariq Khan from Pabna, Abdullah Al Mamun from Sirajganj, Md. Rubayek Haque from Naogaon and Md. Rakibul Islam from Bogra have received councilor nominations.
In total, in Category 2 club cricket, 18 clubs got councilorship in the first division in the draft list, but the number in the final list stood at 20. In the second division, there were 19 clubs in the draft list, while 23 clubs got councilorship in the final list. In the third division, there were 11 out of 20 clubs at the beginning, but it increased to 19 clubs in the final list.
